What a blast from the past.

One of the most loved features in a Grand Theft Auto game is its immersive open world experience, so it’s only fair for the fandom to expect another realistic, crime-filled, no bounds map from Rockstar Games in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Here’s what we know about the GTA 6 map at this stage. Check back, as this piece will be updated as new information is released.

Where will the GTA 6 map be set?

After years of anticipation, uncertainty, and rumors, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed the first trailer for GTA 6 will drop in early December 2023.

While we are anticipating some official updates regarding the GTA 6 map in the upcoming trailer, rumors and leaks have already given away a lot about it.

The GTA 6 game map will reportedly be based on a familiar look, namely the 2002 titular Vice City—a coastal paradise with inspiration drawn from Miami, Florida. In July 2022, Bloomberg reported that a source “close to the matter” had confirmed the next GTA game will return to Vice City. Leaks later in 2022, seemed to corroborate this claim. As the city of Los Santos was a faithful depiction of Los Angeles, the GTA 6 map could mirror the sentiment with a large expansion from the original map.

On Dec. 1, Rockstar Games announced GTA 6‘s first trailer will go live on Dec. 5. The developer used a background image that made fans recall Vice City with its palm trees and pastel colors, strengthening the case for the legendary city’s involvement in the game.

The original game was set in the 1980s and had the aesthetic to match, from the big hair to its synthwave OST, but, according to Bloomberg’s Jason SchreierGTA 6 will be set in the modern day.

Since we are getting a GTA 6 trailer soon, Rockstar might treat its fans to more news regarding the game.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

The GTA 6 map is rumored to be larger than that of GTA 5. Set in the fictional state of San Andreas, the GTA 5 map was huge, with plenty to explore, from the city to the mountains to the desert and plentiful beaches. A December 2020 GTA Online content update even saw the addition of an entire new island named Cayo Perico dedicated to a heist.

Initially reported by industry insider Tom Henderson, GTA 6‘s map will reportedly expand and embrace changes from time to time, similar to Fortnite’s seasons. These claims were also corroborated by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and Video Games Chronicle in July 2021.

With a revamped Vice City reportedly set to be brought into the 21st century, GTA fans have a lot to be excited about within the next couple of years—but hopefully, it’ll be on Rockstar’s terms.

Unfortunately, GTA 6‘s release date is still far from now, with rumors hinting Holiday 2024 as the official goal for the release. Keeping Rockstar’s historical trend to delay releases in mind, though, I’d expect an early 2025 hit. But I’m sure the fandom wouldn’t be surprised if it’s delayed beyond that.

The wait is unarguably painful, but these GTA 6 rumors should keep you company until then.
